trumpetfish with red whip coral (#77, added 30 Apr '98, 86K)
As a diver, one thing I noticed about the trumpetfish is that its body is stiff, which makes it look peculiar as it moves through the water, as though being pushed by some unseen force. The small fins are difficult to see, and a tubular appearance helps the fish blend with the tall whip corals. Trumpetfish normally swim horizontally. Upon reaching a hiding place it moves into a vertical posture, with the numerous fins helping to fine-tune its exact position.

Identification:
Aulostomus chinensis
