orange spotted sand goby [75K]

This brightly colored Orange-Spotted Sand Goby resembles a triplefin, though gobies generally have a more rounded shape of the head between the eyes and mouth. Additionally, triplefins have three distinct dorsal fins.  The flesh of this 4-5 centimeter specimen is translucent, with the outline of its scales and some internal organs partially visible. As member of the largest family of marine fishes, this goby is one of an estimated 1500 species in 200 genera.  More are likely to be discovered, since they are easily overlooked and tend to be skilled in the art of concealment.

Identification:
Coryphopterus sp. (?)
