Compared to its eyes, the mouth of this mandarinfish is very small. Tiny
bits of white coral rubble are stuck to its head after it has sifted
through the bottom sediment. Mandarinfish are structurally well-equipped for
their benthic
existence, with high protruding eyes and a vacuum-like mouth.
