another triplefin on coral polyps (added 30 May '98, 74K)

This small triplefin is resting on some coral polyps. Shown in the retracted position with the tentacles hidden, the coral polyps are only about 3/8 inch across. The positioning of its eyes allow it to see all around, helping it avoid predators. The transparency of its body helps it blend against the reef-- its fins and much of its body are barely visible.

Identification:
Helcogramma sp.
